چکیده

JOURNAL OF WOUND CARE JANUARY, VOL 9, NO 1, 2000 Most wound healing is well controlled, but over-abundant deposition of collagen may result in hypertrophic or keloid scarring.1 These scars are raised, hard, lumpy and erythematous, and pruritis is invariably a distressing symptom.2 The prime clinical feature distinguishing keloid from hypertrophic scarring is that keloid scar tissue progressively encroaches on the surrounding normal skin. Hypertrophic scarring is confined to damaged tissue; it also increases in dimension, but by pushing out its margins, rather than by invasion of surrounding tissue.3

Comparison of a silicone gel-filled cushion and silicon gel sheeting for the treatment of hypertrophic or keloid scars.

BACKGROUND The exact mechanisms of action responsible for the effectiveness of silicone gel dressings are unknown, although it has been proposed that static electricity generated by friction could be the reason for their anti-scarring effects. OBJECTIVE We compared the efficacy of a cushion of silicone filled with liquid silicone gel reported to induce greater negative static-electric charge ...

Use of a glycerin-based gel sheeting in scar management.

Management of hypertrophic and keloid scars can be difficult. This article presents an initial report on use of a glycerin-based gel sheeting to manage or prevent these scars. The results were comparable to those achieved with silicone sheeting, a typical treatment. Clinically, the glycerin-based sheeting was well tolerated, appeared to be effective, and was less expensive than the silicone she...

Prevention of hypertrophic scars and keloids by the prophylactic use of topical silicone gel sheets following a surgical procedure in an office setting.

BACKGROUND Topical silicone gel sheeting has been used for more than 20 years to help reduce the size of hypertrophic scars and keloids. Its clinical efficacy and safety is well established. OBJECTIVE To determine whether topical silicone gel sheeting can be used to prevent hypertrophic scars and keloids from forming following dermatologic skin surgery. METHODS Patients undergoing skin surg...

Regulation of Transforming Growth Factor β1, Platelet-Derived Growth Factor, and Basic Fibroblast Growth Factor by Silicone Gel Sheeting in Early-Stage Scarring

BACKGROUND Hypertrophic scars and keloids are associated with abnormal levels of growth factors. Silicone gel sheets are effective in treating and preventing hypertrophic scars and keloids. There has been no report on the change in growth factors in the scar tissue following the use of silicone gel sheeting for scar prevention. A prospective controlled trial was performed to evaluate whether gr...

A useful method to overcome the difficulties of applying silicone gel sheet on irregular surfaces.

To date, silicone gel and silicone occlusive plates are the most useful and effective treatment options for hypertrophic scars (surgical and traumatic). Use of silicone sheeting has also been demonstrated to be effective in the treatment of minor keloids in association with corticosteroid intralesional infiltration. In our practice, we encountered four problems: maceration, rashes, pruritus and...
